Cons: none, let yourself experience all that is open to you.
We stopped in at Tamarack Lodge for breakfast. The service was excellent. The waffles were outstanding. The eggs and bacon was good. The shredded hash browns would've been tastier if cooked longer so that it had crisper edges. Overall, very good.
Great place!! Close to Glacier Park, less then ten miles. Breakfast to start out your day. End the day with good meal with a few drinks with great people. Comfortable room with a great night sleep.
Unfortunately we weren't overly enthusiastic about our stay. We stayed in room 7 of the motel section. Room was small but adequate. The room had a super funky smell when we arrived. The windows had been left open, and the room was very cold. It was a chilly weekend. The heater in the room was inefficient and very noisy. We had to put the temp up 10 degrees hotter than we wanted it just to get it to run for more than half a second at a time, and to get it warm enough anywhere but the immediate vicinity of the heater. The thermostat inside the unit was messed up. Once it sensed that it had reached its set temperature, it turned on for about a second every minute or so. The noise was annoying, and the 1 second burst of heat didn't do anything. The bed was comfortable. The remote control for the TV was filthy. Thankfully I had stuff to wipe it down with. The towels were all spattered with some kind of debris, either coming off the window sill when we closed the window (remember it was cold), or from stuff being blown in the open window. It was disconcerting, but we're campers so I just shrugged it off and shook off the towels. I wasn't entirely convinced that the sheets had been changed from the previous guests. The room was otherwise clean, other than the rocking chair which just looked very worn and over-used. The breakfast was just okay. The hash browns were practically raw, and by the time our server brought a new batch we were done and ready to leave. They were essentially tasteless, anyway. Decent coffee. We normally camp, so rustic doesn't bother us, but the room really didn't feel like it was prepared well for the next guests. I don't know if that's a housekeeping or management issue, but it should be addressed. The property is beautiful, the Lodge itself is very cool, and I would guess that the stand alone cabins are nicer than the motel rooms. We wanted a cheap getaway, so this was our option. I'd give the room itself and the breakfast about 2.5 stars, (minor fixes would easily bump it up), and the Lodge and the property get a 5.
Want a four star hotel? Check out another State. The Tamarack has a true sense of peace and integrates nature into the facilities.
Pros: great food, good drink, recycling, International peace post, fire pits (wood provided), comfortable beds, caring owner.
Staff courteous and friendly. Rustic as expected but after all its a historic motel. Bathrooms were not meant to be community rooms in these older hotels. Road front rooms have road traffic noise, but back cabins are quieter. WiFi is the best.
